Oral History Tasmania (OHT) was formed in 1991 as a branch of the Oral History Association of Australia (OHAA).
In 2013 the Association became Oral History Australia and the state branches became stand-alone organisations. OHAA (Tas) became Oral History Tasmania in September 2014.
We aim to:
- promote the practice and methods of oral history
- educate in the use of oral history methods
- encourage discussion of all problems in oral history
- foster the preservation of oral history records
- pursue common objectives and maintain links with other Australian oral history associations through membership of Oral History Australia Inc.
All are welcome to join Oral History Tasmania. Our members have been involved in oral histories on all sorts of topics, such as the Hmong in Tasmania, the seafood industry, nursing and migration. Some members are interested in finding out more about family history, others in the history of the area in which they live.
Governance
OHT is governed by a management committee elected at the annual general meeting. The committee comprises office holders and ordinary committee members.
Members are welcome to attend committee meetings: monthly on Thursdays at the Queen Victoria Museum, Inveresk, Launceston.
